Thank you for considering Waypoint Counselling - a safe spaces therapy practice. To learn more about Anne-Drea, see below.
Anne-Drea (she/her) graduated from the University of New Brunswick with First class Honours (Sociology) & Dean Scholar Award, in 2008. Since then, she completed the post-degree Bachelor of Social Work program at St. Thomas University, and has practiced as a licensed social worker while operating Waypoint Counselling & Crisis Intervention (formerly named) on a casual, referral-only basis over the years.
Anne-Drea feels blessed to have practiced in such a wide range of settings, including several Indigenous communities, Government Probation services, Child & Youth Advocate Office, John Howard Society, and Horizon Health Mental Health & Addictions. Some of her favourite roles included: Clinical Coordinator for Mental Health Court/Correctional Centres/Forensics teams; Indigenous Child & Family Services social worker; acute psychiatry as mental health social worker; Court Diversion Coordinator, Probation Officer, and as Executive Director for a large non-profit agency.
In 2016, Anne-Drea completed the MSW at Dalhousie University, with emphasis on Anti-Oppressive Practice, appropriately suited for her work with marginalized individuals. That same year, she began teaching at St. Thomas University, and continues teaching there today.
Until June 2020, Anne-Drea worked with Horizon Health, [New Brunswick's government health program], as Clinical Coordinator, for various programs across the years.
By June, the COVID pandemic had significantly increased the strain on public and private mental health service. This increased strain was partially due to the limitations placed on "gathering in public places," such as wait rooms (in all service industries), and partly due to the overwhelming effects that 'living in a pandemic state' can place on anyone, which increased the need for greater access to mental health services.
For these reasons, Anne-Drea expanded her private practice hours to help address counselling waitlists, accepts pro-bono clients, and to further address the service gap, she writes an article in the "Freddy Plus," a monthly, online/print publication. The article intends to educate readers about issues related to mental illness, and to provide helpful resources for readers who may be wait-listed for service.
Anne-Drea's Additional course work & trainings are outlined below:
